About YLI

During this five-day, hands-on, fun program, Kansas City area high school students just like you explore leadership principles, learn about the value of community service and get inspired to act.

This unique, interactive opportunity has been led by experienced facilitators and community leaders for 17 years. Through YLI, graduates discover a keen awareness of their own leadership potential and develop the skills necessary to be a successful leader in their communities.

When and where is YLI?

YLI will be held the week of July 17-23, 2011 at Johnson County Community College, conveniently located at the southwest corner of College Boulevard and Quivira Road in Overland Park, KS.

Who can apply?

Any high school student eager to learn to become an effective leader while having fun in the summer is eligible to apply.

Applicants for YLI must:

  • Currently be a high school student at a school in the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Commit to attend YLI's Orientation Dinner and all days of the YLI Leadership Training Sessions.

How much does YLI cost?

YLI’s all inclusive tuition is just $195. Tuition covers all supplies, meals and field trip transportation to and from the JCCC campus. If an applicant cannot afford all or part of the tuition, he or she can apply for tuition assistance from the Foundation and/or volunteer to serve as an intern with the YLI Committee.

No one will be turned away strictly for inability to pay the tuition.
